Webster Technique

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that aims to establish a balance in the pregnant woman's pelvis and reduce undue stress to her uterus and supporting ligaments. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, this technique has become a staple in chiropractic care, especially for pregnant women.

How is Webster procedure performed?

The chiropractor begins by analyzing the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine) for any misalignment. A specific chiropractic adjustment is applied to bring the sacrum and pelvis into proper alignment. Soft Tissue Release: The chiropractor may also address and release any tightness or tension in the round ligaments and other pelvic ligaments to further balance the pelvis.

Benefits of Care

Pelvic Balance: The technique ensures a balanced pelvis, which can lead to a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. Optimal Fetal Positioning: A balanced pelvis allows the baby to assume the best possible position for birth, potentially reducing the chances of a breech or transverse presentation. Reduced Labor and Delivery Time: Some reports suggest that balanced pelvic muscles and ligaments can lead to a smoother and quicker labor and delivery. Decreased Discomfort: By addressing sacral subluxations and optimizing pelvic biomechanics, many women report reduced back pain and other discomforts associated with pregnancy.

Breech Presentation: The Webster Technique is renowned for its potential to aid in turning breech babies, although it's not a guaranteed method for turning the fetus. It simply creates an environment where the baby can turn naturally if it chooses to. Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction: The technique can help alleviate pain and discomfort caused by misalignment of the sacroiliac joint. Pelvic Imbalance: Pregnant women often experience shifts in their pelvis due to the growing fetus and changes in their center of gravity. The Webster Technique can help address these imbalances. Lower Back Pain: Many pregnant women experience lower back pain, and this technique can offer relief by ensuring the spine and pelvis are properly aligned.
